European healthcare supplier Mediq has announced its intention to acquire Ireland-based Medguard Healthcare, a deal that underscores growing consolidation in the medical distribution and logistics sector. The move aims to strengthen supply reliability, expand service reach, and reinforce support for healthcare professionals throughout Ireland.

Medguard, known for its customer-first approach and deep local relationships, has built a strong reputation for delivering essential medical devices and consumables. Managing Director Lisa Mullaney said the partnership offers new opportunities to scale operations while maintaining close ties to Irish healthcare providers. “With Mediq, we can broaden our offering and amplify our impact while keeping service close to those who rely on us,” she said.

Mediq, which operates in 14 European markets, provides medical devices, logistics, and clinical support to hospitals, homecare providers, and primary care practices. Rory Batt, Managing Director for Mediq UK & Ireland, described Medguard as “an excellent fit” for Mediq’s mission, adding that the collaboration will help improve resilience and deliver dependable products and services to healthcare professionals.

The proposed acquisition will be reviewed by Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC). Until approval is granted, both companies will continue to operate independently, with no changes for existing customers.

The acquisition positions Mediq to reinforce its footprint in Ireland’s healthcare market while enabling Medguard to leverage broader European capabilities for innovation, logistics, and service efficiency.
